Takeover Challenge

Today, Oxford Grove have taken part in a Takeover Challenge! As part of our Investors in Pupils award, the children must have an understanding of the different roles that are carried out in our school. Children were able to apply for different roles throughout the school and had the opportunity to carry out tasks around the school. Each class had their own teachers and teaching assistants who presented a PowerPoint all about the schools budget and how this is spent each year. We also had music assistants who helped Mrs Hudson in her music lessons and helped Mr Bamford in his drumming sessions with Year 5. Our headcount assistants went to each class in the morning and the afternoon to make sure each classes headcount was correct and then reported this to the office. We also had lunchtime assistants and playground assistants who made sure all children were being tidy and playing nicely at lunch.

Lots of children were eager to take on the role of Miss Harvey so we had lots of children ask interview questions and shadow during the day to understand the role of Headteacher. We also had children interview Mrs Day to understand her role of Deputy headteacher and also interview Mrs Worsley as business manager and Mrs Sharples as Attendance Officer. Finally, to finish off our day, we had some children from Key Stage 2 read a lovely story to our reception children. Overall, 70 children across the school took part in the Takeover Challenge!

Have a look at our fantastic morning below:

This was fun an important. It shows how hard a job at school can be. No matter how big or small it is is really important to respect every job.

Wow! Is it Opposite Day? Oh no, they are our own Oxford Grove students taking the role of our teachers. This is a great opportunity to take responsibility and help you for when you might do them things yourself.

This was a takeover challenge. A takeover challenge is when you take over different teachers jobs. There were jobs like reading at reception, helping Miss Moore and much more jobs. There were approximately 12 or 13 jobs in the application.

  6. I told my mum that I was a teacher she was shocked when I told her. She said “ you normally a student not a teacher. I said it was the take over challenge!! She said “ what’s that” I said “ It is when you take over a job!!

Thank you School, teachers and Miss Johnston – sweeny ..!!

I think it’s a brilliant idea to have the kids act as their teachers! It’s a fun and creative way for them to gain a deeper understanding of what teachers experience every day. By stepping into their teachers’ shoes, the children will see firsthand how challenging it can be to manage a classroom, plan lessons, and support every student. This experience will help them appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into being a teacher, and hopefully, foster greater respect and empathy for the challenges educators face. It’s a great way to build mutual understanding and appreciation!

It is important that this event happens. Why? Because you can experience what teachers deal with in everyday life throughout the week such as: planning our lessons when we aren’t at school, taking care of the classroom and many more.

  10. Mariam says:

I really enjoyed this day because our school had chosen fairly for children who had courage to takeover the teachers and teach the children.

Today our school had the Takeover challenge. This is where we asked for a role ( like reading to nursery or being the teacher for the day) then Miss Harvey would tell us if we got the role. The next day we would then get to go ahead and do our role. It was extremely exiting and I’m sure that everyone enjoyed it just as much as I did. Thank you Miss Harvey for letting us do fun activities like this one!
