Weekly Roundup 20th November 2020

We have had another fun week in Reception 2. Miss Roscoe and Mrs Umarji are so proud of everybody! We have had so many people on our proud cloud this week for being amazing, well done Reception 2! Lets take a look at everything we have learned this week.

Literacy
This week we have read the story of Red Riding Hood. We got a special delivery from the police asking us to help catch the Big Bad Wolf! We made wanted posters and some of us thought about what the wolf was like by acting out what Red Riding Hood said to him when she saw him in Grandma’s Cottage.

Maths
We have been helping Grandma sort out her basket after the Big Bad Wolf knocked it over in her cottage. We have been doing some estimating and counting, putting food in Granny’s basket. Then we made her a new basket using the language under and over, and looking at recognising and making a repeated pattern. We had to concentrate and use our fine motor skills to weave the baskets.

Topic
This week was anti-bullying week and we talked about using ‘kind hands’ in our classroom and also at home. We looked at our similarities and differences and decided that we all have things that are the same, and things that are different. As a class we came to the agreement that being different is a good thing and our differences don’t really matter, as long as we are kind to each other. How right you are Reception 2 🙂

We have been having fun in our brand new wrapping station this week too! We are all getting very excited for Christmas.

Online safety
As we are using the internet much more frequently, especially during at home, it is so important to remind our children how to keep safe online.

Wow, another really busy week! I have been so amazed by your brilliant Reading, Writing and Maths this week reception. Well done to everybody and we will see you all next week.

If you would like to continue your child’s learning at home you could:
* Read their reading books and traditional tales every night to help them become familiar with story telling. Can they retell some of the stories and talk about the characters?
* Continue to help your child write their own name. If your child can do this, start working on their second name and correct letter formation.
* Talk about estimation as a ‘good guess’ and have a go at estimating using jars, boxes or packets. Support them to count the objects to check their estimate.
* Talk about the different people in their lives and what kinds of things we can do to be kind to those around us.
* Use mathematical language of over and under and see if they can create repeat patterns independently.
