Hummingbird Project Session 3

Today Year 5 had our next session with The Hummingbird Project learning all about slowing down. We started our session by discussing our challenge from last week to give our thank you cards to the people we made them for and we thought about how doing something nice and saying thank you can help us to feel happier. Next, we did a mindfulness five senses activity to help us feel calmer. After that, we did a rate that smell activity where we tried different smells and rated whether we like it or not to help us slow down and focus on our senses. What activity could you try to do mindfully this week Year 5?

I had so much with this session because we were smelling different scents in little jars which had cotton bud and in the cotton bud there was food or soap hidden in the cotton balls. Before we did this scent last week we were making cards to the people we are close to and giving it to them but there were two little boxes that asked how did it make you feel? How did they feel?

This was the third week of the hummingbird project and to start the session we looked around the room to see if we could notice anything that we had never noticed before well I noticed a colourful bag that was at the front of the room. After that we had to see what we could hear, all I could hear was children talking from the playground and chairs moving from outside.Next we had to see what we could smell, I couldn’t really smell anything. We also got some jars and passed them around the room and we had to guess what it was and write it into our book. Once we did all of the, he told us what they all were and I got 5 of them correct out of 10.

I loved this lesson because when we smelt them they smelt good and also bad. We had to really think about what we could smell and judge whether they were good or bad.The 2 I put ten for was A and J because they were mentos and hot chocolate and smelt really nice!

The hummingbird project is so fun! It helps us stay calm and happy at times when we are sad or stressed. Ian (our teacher for the hummingbird project ) is very kind and supportive and he helps us with lots of things.

This Hummingbird project lesson 3 was super fun! In this lesson, we were smelling jars with different smells we couldn’t see what was inside because it was filled with cotton balls! We had to slow down and really think about what we could smell.
