Autumn 2 Online Safety task – Cheer Champions

This week, the Digital Leaders have worked across the school to lead an activity in their own classes. We talked about being Cheer Champions as our focus, using Bolton Schools ICT resources to support us. Class teachers then blogged about our activities on their class blogs. We chose Cheer Champions in response to feedback from classes last half term, asking for support with Online Health and Wellbeing as we moved into winter and children in school may be spending more time on devices due to the colder weather.

Each class then talked about different aspects of online safety that they would like to know more about. The Digital Leaders will be meeting again after half term to look at the feedback from classes and identify how we can support with this.

Well done on leading your tasks, Digital Leaders!

We learnt the things all about being a cheer champion online, a cheer champion would be someone who reminds people online on how to behave and tell others on digital platforms to respect others and use respectful communication words. A cheer champion also makes sure that people are using the positive behaviour online and not using negative behaviour.

ALEC means a- ask, l-listen, e-encourage and c for check. If someone is unhappy or upset, you can cheer them up by telling a joke or you can talk to them about their problems.

ALEC means, A ask, L listen, E encourage and C check.
If someone is sad you can go and ask them if they are okay.
    Listen to their problem carefully.
Encourage them to play with you.
    Check that they are okay.

The internet assembly was really cool. As it was a really good assembly. You might use ALEC in a scenario like this: Tara was looking for a friend to play with on Fortnite when a group of people came to her and started swearing at her. She said that that is not very nice. Then someone showed her his sniper so she ran away.

  10. Thomas says:

ALEC means: ask listen encourage check.
If someone is feeling upset you can go and ask.
    Listen to what they say.
    Encourage them.
Check back in a day or so to see if they are ok.
