Last week in Year 5, we started our new maths learning. We started with learning about place value up to 1,000,000, then learnt how to read and write numbers up to 7 digit numbers. This week, we have been learning how to compare and order numbers, remembering our place value learning and how to round numbers up to the nearest million. What have you learnt Year 5?
Our first maths lesson was brilliant! I understood everything and Miss Nixon taught us amazingly so that we could understand what we needed to do. My favourite lesson so far is rounding
We have learnt how to round with millions and the place value. We have also learnt to order numbers, we learn numbers all the way to millions. We have so much more to learn!
This maths lesson was amazing, we got to round numbers up to 1,000,000. There were lots of questions and I still managed to get through them. Miss Nixon taught us that if we are rounding up to our millions we should also look at the hundred’s thousands column to find the answer. The maths lesson we did today helped me a lot on my numbers, if you want to round up then if it’s 5 or more you can, and if you want to round does it has to be 4 or less.
We have been learning lots of things in our maths topics. For our first lesson we did some reading and writing numbers. After that we did comparing and ordering numbers which was very fun and easy and lastly we did rounding. First we started of with rounding 10s 100s and 1000 and when we got better at doing that then we did 10,000s 100,000 and millions.
It is really fun to learn about place value in math although we have do 3 sections it’s really fun and exciting.We all love learning about place value in math and our new subject rounding might be my favourite subject of this whole year.
In maths we are learning all about rounding, place value and today we were learning all about counting powers to ten. We are going to finish it off tomorrow. What are you going to learn about today?
In year 5 maths we have 2 math groups Miss Nixon’s math group and Miss Austin’s math group. We are learning new things and old things such as rounding. We have 2 rhymes one of them are called 1234 round it down to the floor 56789 round it up all the time. The second one is 4 or less let it rest 5 or more raise the score. We really enjoyed doing math and also it’s really fun it is 1hour and 15 minutes.
I am in miss Nixons group in maths and she is also my English and base class teacher she is very very very nice to us and helps us with things and she is very very very happy and cheerful!
I have really enjoyed doing rounded even though I found it a bit tricky I eventually go there. I can’t believe that we’re doing ones tens hundredths thousands hundred thousands and one million it crazy how we can all do rounding to the nearest 1millions. Also if we start to struggle and get questions incorrect Miss Nixon will always help us.
