Art – Portraits based on Kehinde Wiley

Over the last few weeks, we have enjoyed exploring the art of Kehinde Wiley, a black portrait artist from America. We particularly love the backgrounds on his portraits, because they are bright and colourful!

We have been exploring how we can create our own artwork based on Kehinde Wiley’s work. This week, we have created our own patterned backgrounds on Purple Mash. Then we used the iPads to take photos of each other showing different emotions, such as happy, sad, excited, angry or scared. We printed our digital artwork and added our photo portrait onto our background to create artwork similar to Kehinde Wiley. Have a look at some examples of our learning. Well done, Year 1!
