Today we had a visit from Farmer David who brought some of his farm animals as part of our first Smiley Reward.
We had the chance to feed and stroke: chickens, goats, alpacas and sheep.
Thank you so much Miss Harvey. We are so excited for our next Smiley Reward :).
During our PE lesson this week we had a special visitor. She was from the West End and we learned how to celebrate Diwali through a dance. We were using our bodies and being creative.
“What was your favourite part?”
In our science lessons this half term we have been looking at Materials.
We have been investigating which materials change shape.
Do they bend, squash, stretch or twist?
Can you remember what actions the children are showing in these pictures?
In our reading area we have lots of different books that we love to read.
We enjoy reading books fiction and non-fiction books.

In our topic lessons we have been learning all about Bolton!
We have been busy finding Bolton on a UK map, making play dough maps of the UK and identifying the capital cities and learning about famous people from Bolton.
Can you remember the names of these famous people from Bolton?
What a lot of number work we have been doing. We have been busy learning about place value and making numbers practically using the tens and the ones.
Some of us have been having fun adding in our superhero maths area!
WOW! What a fantastic first week back we have had in 2H.
We have started to learn about our new topics which are very exciting!
We have been busy making clay elephants in Art, learning about different materials in Science and all about our local area in Geography.
What have you enjoyed most so far in Year 2?
Today is Reading Day and we have loved sharing our favourite stories with Miss Harrison!
Miss Harrison’s favourite book is The Rainbow Fish because it’s all about friendships, happiness and sharing which are three of her favourite things.
What is your favourite story and why?
The children in Year One have been working hard with the artist to create some wonderful art work for the new Key Stage 1 Workshop Area. Can you guess what they may be creating?
This week we have been celebrating how wonderful all of our teachers and teaching assistants are for all the hard work and time they put into our class and corridor environments!
They always look amazing! Thank you for making our school look fantastic!
1B would like to wish, everyone celebrating, a happy Eid! We hope you have an amazing time and we are looking forward to hearing how you celebrated on Monday!
What did you do to celebrate?
This morning we took part in mini golf for our Summer 1 smiley reward. We had lots of fun working in teams to try and get a hole in one!
We are now working really hard to earn a gold award from Miss Harvey!
Our science topic is all about humans and animals. We have learned to classify animals into groups. We learned that humans are mammals. We have also looks at other groups and learned that animals with wings and feathers are called birds. We looked at birds that you could find in the U.K. and thought about their features.
We took advantage of the lovely Spring weather and went outside to spot some birds nests. We thought about bird’s habitats and what materials they used to build their nests. We used the materials on the field to build our own nests.
We have been very busy in our computing lessons making sprites move and designing our own screen savers! We have been using 2code to help us and Mrs Bevin has been very impressed!
Earlier this week we have been using the 2graph software to do some cross curricular learning about transport and the number of wheels.
Here are some of the block graphs we have made.
We have been learning about lots of different Fairy tale stories over the last few weeks and we have enjoyed them all but our favourite has been The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
We used the blurb and the front cover of the book to make some predictions and then we read the story and re enacted it with our super acting skills.
Once we had a good understanding of the story we chose our favourite character , the troll to do some descriptive writing. We used thesauruses to make our writing exciting and we shared ideas with others to produce some fabulous writing.
Take a look at these:
This half term we are learning all about team games. We have been throwing and catching with our partners. We are getting really good at this now.
Mrs Moore is very impressed with you all.
In Year One we love to read books from our class library every morning. We have really enjoyed reading books written by Julia Donaldson as she is our class author. Year One love “The Highway Rat” and “What the Ladybird Heard”. Finlay even brought in the sequel so we could share “What the Ladybird Head Next” with the rest of the class!
We have discovered so many different Authors during our time spent in Year One and Story Time is one of our favourite parts of the day.
This week we are celebrating World Book Day and are going to be doing lots of fun activities linked to some of our favourite stories.
Before half term we set up an investigation to see how much rainfall falls during a week in the season of winter. We made some rain gauges and placed them on our school fence so that they could collect the rain water.
We all made a prediction of how many millilitres (ml) of rain would have been collected over the week of half term and today we went to go and take some recordings.
We enjoyed using out maths skills to measure and record our findings.
Does anybody think they might know what results we found?
At Oxford Grove we always think carefully before we go online. We know that there are things online that can make us happy and things online that can make us sad.
We have been making faces to show and share with our friends that happy things we can do on the internet and what to do if we see something that makes us sad.
We learned about a set of monster friends who posted online their entry to a competition. Lots of people were posting nice comments but one person posted something mean and it upset the monsters. The monsters told an adult and the adult was able to help them get it sorted out.
This week in maths we have been learning how to find half of a number.
We know that we need to share into 2 groups equally.
We also worked out that doubling is the opposite of halving and we can use our doubles to help us to halve numbers quickly.
We have been keeping our eye on the weather this half term as we are learning all about it in our geography and science lessons.
We have watched real life snowflakes fall from the sky this week and definitely seen our fair share of raindrops.
What is your favourite type of weather and why?
We have been working really hard in Year 1 to make sure our spelling is improving everyday. Mrs Bevin likes to teach us special rhymes to help us to remember tricky words.
This week we learned how to spell “because”.
B – Big
c – can
a – always
u – understand
s – small
e – elephants
Do you know any more?
We have been learning all about the four seasons in Science.
The season now is Winter. It is cold in winter.
We worked out that it was 3 degrees today and used the internet to work out the temperature for the rest of the week using the weather forecast.
We decided that it was best to wear our hats and scarfs while the weather is so cold.
We had lots of fun performing our ‘Friend Assembly’ to the rest of Key Stage 1.
We talked about what it means to be a good friend.
In our class we are all friends!
Thank you for coming to watch and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We had lots of fun performing our friends assembly for KS1.
Today a real life poet came to join us. He was called Matt Goodfellow and we had so much fun listening to and joining in with his performance poems.
Later on we were extra lucky because Mr Goodfellow came to help us write some of our own poetry.
We played on the playground for 5 minutes which gave us the inspiration that we needed to write our poem.
This is what we came up with
Out on the Playground
We play on the equipment
Out on the play ground
We play chase
Out on the play ground
We play football
Out on the play ground
We chat with our friends
Out on the play ground
We chase the red ball

By Year 1B
This week we have been conducting a transport survey as part of our Topic learning about our school grounds.
We used our super data handling skills to collect the information and put it in to a table. Later this afternoon we made some block graphs on the computer.
Mrs Day are you impressed?
We had a great time exploring the trees in or playground and were really good at labelling the parts of a tree.
Well done 1B .
Can you remember the parts of the tree that we have been learning about?
We have been doing lots of wonderful writing in year 1, based on a book by our class author called ‘The Gruffalo’. We have been writing about the characters as well as the settings and have been trying hard to remember capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
