Summer 1 Smiley Reward – the Circus

On Friday, Reception, Key Stage 1 and Year 6 took part in their Smiley reward, and today it was Key Stage 2’s turn. The children have all enjoyed learning a variety of circus skills, including plate spinning, scarf waving, balancing, juggling and even riding tiny bicycles!

Well done to all the children for earning their smileys!

Our Parent Area

Our Parent Area on the school blog is updated with articles from CEOP on a regular basis, as well as containing links to websites and resources you can use to support yourself and your child in a variety of areas, based around some of the difficulties of modern parenting.

The Parent Area has also been recently updated to show categories for all of our resources, making it even easier to find support for different topics.

If you need a reminder of the username and password, please ask at the School Office.

Competition Winners

In our assembly this afternoon, we have been giving out lots of prizes! The winners of Mrs Calland’s bookmark competition were announced – well done to all those who won!

Also, some teachers in school have been holding blogging competitions within their classes. Well done to all those children who won with their comments! Other classes will be taking part in class blogging competitions next half term.

Also, Miss Harvey is holding a competition for the best child bloggers over the Easter holidays! This is in addition to our current adult blogging competition which runs until July.

Get blogging, everybody!

World Book Day

We have had an amazing World Book Day! Well done to all of our children who have dressed up in such fantastic costumes, and well done to all of those parents and carers who have helped out! We hope you all look forward to spending your £1 book voucher!

In addition to all of our book related activities, KS1 and KS2 have enjoyed a whole school assembly with author and poet, Alec Williams, who has then spent the day leading workshops for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Take a look at our group photos below, and please visit class pages to see more photos of children in each class.

Fundraising for Christie’s

Every year in the Autumn term, our School Council chooses charities to support. These charities are chosen by the children, who have to give presentations to explain why their chosen charity should be supported. The Council then decide from this selection which charities they would like to  support for the coming year.

As one of their charities, last year’s School Council chose the Christie, the leading cancer hospital in Manchester. Last year we took part in a Spellathon and non-uniform days to raise money.

This week, Howard from the Christie came into school so we could present the money we have raised, which is a total of £1,515. He told Key Stage 2 all about the Christie’s current work on proton beam therapy, which is what the money we have raised will be going towards.

Thank you so much to everybody who supported our fundraising efforts last year, and who continue to support us this year. Well done, Oxford Grove!

Safer Internet Day 2017

Today, the Digital Leaders have helped Mrs Thompson to run a parent’s awareness session as part of our Safer Internet Day celebrations.

Parents were invited into school to see a short presentation on how to keep children safe online and learn about our Parent Area.

Thank you to all parents who attended!

Parent Reading Workshop

This morning, our school has invited parents in to take part in our second learning workshop, ‘How We Teach Reading’.

Parents listened to a short presentation from Miss Harvey and Mrs Calland, and then were able to spend time in their child’s classroom to see the different ways in which reading is taught throughout school.

Each class from Reception to Year 6 took part. Here is some feedback from our parents:
