Work Related Learning 2016

IMG_1843What a fabulous Work Related Learning event! Our event was held outside this year, in glorious weather, despite the forecast of rain. Work Related Learning is always a popular, well-attended event and this year was no different.

Each class selects a country or continent to focus their learning on, and we saw a wide range of countries and cultures represented, from England to Mexico, India to Jamaica, Africa to Australia.

Family Learning

In April, we began hosting Maths Family Learning workshops. These workshops were for parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, and were held every Monday between 9am and 12pm.

As part of the workshops, parents were helped to create resources to use with their children to support their learning at home. The children also joined the sessions for part of the time to learn with their parents!

Thank you to all our attendees for your support. The workshops have finished for the Summer, but will return in September. More information will be sent out about our next workshops, focusing on reading and writing, before the end of the year.

The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations

Today we have had a special assembly from Christine from St Luke’s Church. The assembly was all about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday.

Over half term, the children have been working really hard on their competition entries. The competition was to create something to celebrate our Queen, and we had a huge range of entries, from models and sculptures, to cards and poems, to detailed pictures (both drawn and digital).

The winners (chosen by Christine) are as follows:

  • Vishnu (Reception 2)
  • Michal (Year 2B)
  •  (Year 4L)
  • Matthew (Year 5)

Each winner won a £10 Sainsbury’s giftcard, kindly donated by the St Luke’s Community Charity Shop (‘Sewing The Seed’ on Chorley Old Road).

However, we were slightly sad as this assembly was Christine’s last assembly with us, as she moves onto a new parish. We are very grateful to Christine for all the time she has spent with us Oxford Grove over the last three years and we wish her well for the future.

Fundraising for Freya

At Oxford Grove, we are immensely proud of all our children with their wide range of talents, interests and abilities.

Picture215Outside of school, Freya in Year 4S takes part in a cheerleading club run by Bolton Gymnastics Club. Her team have been incredibly successful, winning the UK National Cheerleading Championships to become National Champions. They now have the unique opportunity to travel to Slovenia to take part in the European Cheerleading Championship!

As Freya’s team is now fundraising to raise money in order to take them to Slovenia, our School Council decided to hold a non-uniform day on Friday 13th May.

We raised £330 altogether, and the cheque was presented to Freya’s mum in assembly this morning. The cheque will be passed on to Bolton Gymnastics Club to help towards the costs of cheerleading uniforms and travel to the international competition.

Thank you so much to all of our generous parents who have sent in such beautiful Harvest donations!

The Harvest gifts have been given out to those in need in the community, identified by our parents.

The children have enjoyed taking part in a Harvest assembly led by St Luke’s Church, and as part of our smiley reward system, the children have been enjoying visiting the Farm and learning about where some of our food comes from.

St Lukes Community Carol Concert

This afternoon the Oxford Grove choir joined the Wednesday Club at St Luke’s Church Hall, who were enjoyed their Christmas celebrations. The children performed a number of Christmas classics to put a smile on everyone’s faces. Club member enjoyed the sing-along so much that they generously donated £50 to the instrument fund for which we are very grateful.
